FarWest Forest Products is on a mission to help small landowners with trees that are at-risk from drought and bark beetles.

Far West Forest Products spearheaded a sawmill network, to help small private landowners remove tree mortality and at-risk trees, and to create new markets for wood products from these lower value trees

100 MILLION TREES DEAD… AND GONE

A lethal combination of drought and bark beetles killed more than 100 million forest trees died in California between 2010 and 2016.

Millions of these trees died on private land whose owners who had few options to salvage their trees because of the magnitude of the crisis.

This valuable resource has been going to waste and contributing to wildfire risk – all while we import wood from around the world.

With the help of the USFS through a Wood Innovations grant we were able to start to make a dent in the tree mortality epidemic in Northern California.
